History and details of Tanjorkar Family in Vadodara

Our family is basically from Thanjavur in Tamilnadu State (South India) and the family ancestors were artists in this field and they served in the Tanjavur Palace for generations.

When Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III came in ruling in then Baroda state (Vadodara), Gujarat, he married with Princess Maharani Chimnabai of Tanjore. The queen Chimnabai who was knowledgeable in Bharatnatyam and Carnatic Music, brought this Music and Art group from Tanjore to Baroda. Our Tanjorkar Family was invited by her to come to Baroda in 1892.
